Critique an answer with another model

Ask a different model to review an answer for errors, assumptions, gaps, and alternatives in a separate branch.

Critique asks a second model to examine an existing answer. It is available under a completed, saved answer in Chat as Critique, and from a Canvas node’s ⋮ menu as Critique with another model. It does not replace or edit the answer you already have: Neurothread creates a new child branch so both responses remain in the workspace.

The reviewer is selected for you. Neurothread normally picks an available model from a different provider than the author, preferring a featured Value model, then Top, then another available model. There is no separate reviewer picker in this action. The review uses the conversation branch as context, including the answer being reviewed.

Use Critique to challenge an answer before relying on it, especially for plans, analysis, technical explanations, or recommendations where omissions and assumptions matter. It is most useful when you can ask the reviewer to inspect a specific kind of risk. It is not a fact-checking guarantee: the reviewer is another model and can miss errors or introduce its own.

  1. Wait until the answer has finished. In Chat, find the Critique action below the answer. On Canvas, open the answer node’s ⋮ menu and choose Critique with another model.
  2. Select the action once. Neurothread chooses the reviewer automatically and creates a new branch from the answer; you do not need to copy the original text into another prompt.
  3. Read the review beside the answer it critiques. Look for specific claims, reasoning steps, unstated assumptions, missing cases, or alternatives the reviewer identifies.
  4. Verify important factual claims with reliable references or your own domain knowledge. A critique is an additional perspective, not a source citation or a guarantee that either model is correct.
  5. Continue from the response that best serves your task. In Canvas, create a child branch from the critique or original answer. In Chat, use the branch controls to continue from the answer you prefer; the original stays available.
  6. If the first review is too general, make another critique after clarifying the relevant context in the conversation, or ask a focused follow-up in a new branch. Be explicit about what to test, such as edge cases, a target audience, or a particular constraint.

Suppose a model proposes a migration plan. Choose Critique and then check whether the reviewer identifies missing backup and rollback steps, assumptions about downtime, or dependencies that were not mentioned. Ask a follow-up such as “Check the plan specifically for data-loss risks during rollback” if you need a narrower review. Keep the original plan and critique together, then decide which suggestions to verify and incorporate.

The review appears as a separate answer in the same workspace, linked to the answer it examines. It does not automatically merge edits into the original, revise the original node, or trigger on every answer. You decide whether to branch from the critique, request a revision, or keep both responses as alternatives. Critique is intended for normal completed answers; it is not offered for Build answers or unfinished generations.

A critique is a model generation and can spend credits like another answer. The cost depends on the selected reviewer, the context it receives, and the generated response; check the model and estimate shown in the app, then review the actual charge on the new answer. If an eligible provider key is being used, the model call is billed by that provider under its own rules. The action does not offer a manual reviewer selection, and the reviewer must be available to your account. If no alternative provider is available, the app may fall back to the original model. Normal credit limits, model availability, and provider rate limits still apply. See Models and credits and BYOK.

  • Critique is missing in Chat: use a completed saved answer, not your own message, a decision result, or an in-progress response.
  • Critique is missing on Canvas: open the answer node’s ⋮ menu. Build answers are not eligible for this action.
  • The reviewer is the same model/provider: the reviewer is chosen automatically from models currently available to your account. If no alternative provider is available, a fallback may use the author model; choose another available provider or try later.
  • The review is broad or misses a concern: ask a focused follow-up that names the claim, constraint, or failure case to examine.
  • The generation fails or reaches a credit limit: retry when the provider is available, choose another model where possible, or review your usage and plan options.
